why is alcohol legal if it kills people, when marijuana is illegal when it may help people relieve pain?
I don't want to depress you, however, I just want to share with you the saddest day of my life. I am heart broken. My youngest child, my beautiful daughter and she was a most beautiful and talented daughter, died early this morning of cirrhosis of the liver. Unknown to me, she contracted hepatitis when getting a cheap tattoo as a teenager. This was dormant until recently. A year and a half ago she came down with a rare disease and was paralyzed from the waist down and gradually came out of it over the following year.
However, during this time of regenerating her nerves in her legs and feet, she was in extreme pain. She is not and was not a drug user. No medication from the doctors could relieve the pain in her legs and feet. I suggested that she try marijuana to help with the pain she had. Because of the stigmatism of being a drug, she did not want to use themarijuana. Her pain in her legs and feet was unbearable, so she resorted to drinkingVodka as a pain medication. I knew that she was drinking to relieve the pain. however, I didn't realize the extent she was drinking to relieve her pain. I also, being a bit knave, did not know that a person with cirrhosis of the liver cannot ever drink.
I am devastated at the loss of my daughter. My point is... why is alcohol legal if it kills people, when marijuana is illegal when it may help people relieve pain?
I cannot believe my loss. My daughter was the world to me. Please help me make this point!

I wonder about this too. You cannot open up the newpaper without seeing a car accident caused by alcohol.
Where are all the deaths caused by weed?
Why is the govt so hard down on weed?
I don't smoke but I just don't understand why one thing that causes so much damaged and death is legal and the other thing that really doesn't do much harm and helps people is not.

I can add to the point! I grew up in a bar My father made me go to work at 8 years oldin a bar. I lived and breath Alcohol . My brother was the bar tender My dad own another bar and yet my dad would say dont drink until your 21. Yeah Like that was gonna happen. Since then I lost my home my wife 98 % of my friendshad 5 DUI's and basically was all alone. Smoking and drinking went hand in hand . I almost died on the hospital emergency room floor. Minutes away. My gal saved me. This made me wuit smoking and I never go to the bar anymore.
So I drove tow truck and I cant tell you Wait I wont tell you how many bodies I saw or cars I towed by Alcohol related issues. My father died of Emphasema many of his friends died from it.I will lose several siblings from it. most of my friends died from Alcohol or cigs. I have never and I repete never towed heard of or even remotely known of anyone who died from pot or got in a car wreck from it. I do though know of many whom use it for Kemo nausea Glaucoma, cancers, artritis, and alot of other things. I know many whom would claim pain just to get a Free Pass under cali Law. Steve Kubby is from my neighborhood. But the only way that Marijuana is going to pass and be legal in this country is if you ALL claim you want Marijuana TAXED! Watch how fast the government makes it legal. Folks The USA runs on money first and nothing else. Its all about the Benjamins. I lost my career in construction and everything else while I was becoming paralyzed from the neck down I am on the dumbest medical insurance ever called Medi Cal and Medicare. I feel like a drain on society. The doctors wont except it because the government is better at taking in money then doling out money My doctors have run off up to 15 times. Hell one of them works for the Raiders now. I ran out of anti inflamatories. I can only use pot now to kill the pain from all the damage in my system But I do not abuse it I smoke two hits when the sun goes down and thats it. It allows me to have a few hours sleep. I go to bed at 9 and wake up at 4. This is interupted. If you want a need for weed to be legalized, Hit the government where they live. In their wallets. I think we should get a petition to TAX weed at 60 bucks a pack and that would help fix the budget and 20 joints for 60 bucks is about 3 bucks a joint So that s better than what you pay now. Remember everyone No stick or stems that you can see.............

Sorry to hear about that. Weed has kept me mobile thru the years as my spine doesn't spasm when I am able to smoke it. What the politicians have been doing for years is what should be illegal. My heart goes out to her family.
On another note, I would give my left nut to be at Ed's house for the shindig, but I am about 3000 miles away, no job at the moment, and my Reeboks have way to little tread to make that trip. Good luck with it though. Tell us how it goes. On the same note, your little get together is making the wire service. I read about it in our local paper yesterday morning. Hope it gets a fantastic turnout.

When government types get a position of power then their position becomes more important than the lives of mere people. Such as when 911 created a panic and flights were canceled, even private planes carrying organs for transplants. Doctors and patients awaiting the organs were left hanging because FEMA and FAA were instructed to ground all flights and would not make any exceptions, even at the cost of the lives of the patients.
The number of deaths from liver problems of people who turn to cocktails of alcohol and Tylenol when doctors cut off their pain medications ignored in all the statistics. To many people die because of this, but it is not considered important enough to mentioned.

Damn, Bobby, Party's on! Y'all are always welcome up here in the land of weed, beer, and hockey! Bring Ed too, but I gotta warn ya. I'll always be the one to choose a fat bud over a beer anyday, but at this time of year, ya better bring both kinds of buds, weed and Budweiser. The beer acts as antifreeze. It's been so fuckin' cold and stormy up here, I think Jack Frost must've sucked off our Prime Minister to set up shop here. lol. Seriously Bobby, if you can ever get that crew in motion, I'll be glad to welcome that party, and fire the bong up anytime. I might even plug in my Telecaster and join in. I suck as a guitar player, but given the right buzz, I can fake it pretty well. RENT PARTY ON!!!! LMAO
Peace, weed, & happiness everybody.

Thats so fucking sad. Sorry to read that! Alcohol is of no benefit to anybody, period. It causes pain, never relieves it. There was a dude down the street from me who died last year or the year before. I think he was about 34. He had a wife and young kids, but was a heavy drinker and it did him in. Never heard of that happening to any potheads.
But its true man. If somebody gets in a fight out in the street, or flips their car, or gets in some kind of accident they're probably drunk. You cant get a good nights sleep if you're drunk, you could crash out for 10 hours and still be tired the next day. Pot lets you sleep well and be mellow, and enjoy music more. Booze has made a fool out of me on more than one occasion, I've learned my lesson about that. Got sick of waking up with injuries and dont know how I got 'em!
I dig Bobby's post. Some good points there.

A complete disregard for justice and interest in the human condition.
My thoughts are with you in your time of pain.
I will always support this issue which does not deal with the drug "problem" but rather human dignity.

Herb is illegal mostly because of economical issues.
1)If weed was legalized the tobacco companies would instantly go out of business. Now this won't happen because the tobacco companies have their leverage in the political game, meaning they fund a lot of campaigns for politians. So it wouldn't make sense, economically, to legalize herb.
2) A lot of industries like the manufacturing would have to do huge changes because of Hemp. Hemp is better than cotton, and infact is probably better than a lot materials that are being used to make clothing today.
so those are two main reasons,
many more when you get indept into why in our reality is pot illegal. Politics, economics, and ignorance run the most powerful countries on mother Earth.
The only way I see of pot ever being legal(other than the fact that most politicians are pot heads) is if the green party wins, and legalizes herb on a "just do it already" wift. Then the rest will follow, and before you know,
we will be runnin this planet on the wonder plant --hemp.

As a person who suffers from chronic pain from degenerative disc desease, and faild back syndrome (from a work related injury)I can not, for the life of me, figure out why it's O.K. to turn a person into a pill addicted junkie for the 'legitimate' relief of pain.
Being a former long term doper and addict,'I quit that shit' a long time ago and stayed dry for 10years.
In 2004 I got injured and started taking the pain killers Percocet and Morphine to deal with the pain since physio was not helping my back. By the time I got to see the right kind of doctor (first it was a neurologist) I was taking about 150-190Mg of morphine a day. The doctor (Orthopedic surgeon)operated and I was O.K. for about 6weeks and then the pain started again. It went from mild nagging pain to pain that I can only compare to the scene in "Back To The Future" where J. Micheal Fox plugs into the professors amp and blows himself across the room. That is the furry of my pain.
I decided that after having pot sitting in my workshop for the last 3 years (given by well meaning but don't understand the words "I don:t toke") people, I decided to give it a try. After all... my other demons hadn't been around for years.
Smoking a dub for the first time in 10 years was a taste treat and an eye opener. Suddenly my pain levels were tolerable to the point of being able to get around the house and do the shopping.
I've now been retired by the provincial workers comp board for cronic pain and impaired mental capabilities (they drove me crazy in the last 4 years).
To say that pot and pain should not go hand in hand is an idiots argument.
The politicians in your country and mine should pull their collective heads out of their own behinds and go visit the people who take 'legal' pain medication on a long term basis in their home enviroment for a few days and then do the same with a cronic pain sufferer who uses pot! I can guarentee you that more of the homes with the pot smokers will be of a calmer nature. Maybe then the politicians would change thier minds.
To force a person to become a criminal to ease their pain in the manner of thier own choising is in itself criminal.
When was the last time someone got cirosis of the brain (sic) from smoking dub's, or two guys getting into a fight, and one killing the other because their stoned?
I for one, being a chronic pain suffer and a former addict, and clean for 10 years can say that pot is much more conducive to easing pain than opiates. Your daily demeaner and conductance of your life is more constructive.
When I took narcotics for my pain I only ended up injuring myself through the day by over exertion because the narcotics masked the pain too well. My wife and I fought all the time because I only had one nerve on narcotics and she seemed to be on it all the time. When I switched to cannabis for pain relief the pot would not mask the pain to the point where I could injure myself and I not know it. My depression and all the shit that goes with it has become more mentally managable.
How many 'legal' junkies are there out there that are fuelling the illegal pill trade that thier well meaning but ill-informed doctor got them hooked on in the first place?
How many people in chronic pain can't deal with the stigma attached to pot by the governments of the world. They would rather drown thier pain in 'legal' alcohol and risk all sorts of other potential life/complicating threatening situations.
The answers are not hard to answer on the moral side either. Pot was growing before booze was brewing. God created pot and man created booze. The funny thing is that we all say we believe in god and the devil but if you mention either one in conversation and people think your a religious nut or whack job. But if the devil did create booze he did some damn good PR for booze and pot to be in the PR nightmares positions they are in now!?
