Man..What a day...Saturday Nov 4th.06..We went to
fire up the ACE electric car and found the car has no
brakes! Gadget and Even tried to bleed the brake lines
but when the took the wheel off they discovered
someone had removed the entire brakeing system. The
springs the brake pads, everything! Damn good thing we
checked first althoug that would have made an exciting
video.
I am excited about driving the Ace the worlds first
electric "lowrider". I am going to put it in car shows
immediately! Well as soon as I get the brake thing
working. You gotta have brakes! In other news...I
messed up my Prius. I backed into another car and
fucked up one door! The good news is I had the
bodyshop remove all the chrome, darken the tail lights
and the windows so now I am driving the first? Maybe
not...anyway the Prius looks like a very cool "custom"
car. I love the sleek look. Now to fix the wheels..hub
caps etc. I am going to post some pictures when the
cars are finished. Oh yeah the uphostery in the Ace
has secret compartments for ...money! Yeah...thats it
money..
We leave for Tampa Fl. for the gigs on the 10, 11, and
12th..I am looking forward to see my old friend and
ex-road manager Jimmy Root. Jimmy was responsible for
that great War song "Lowrider" Jimmy played it for our
act back in 1973...the writers of that song should
send Jimmy some of the money they made.
We are also going to shoot more for the "reality

Looking forward to the pics of your "ranflas" (cars). Good thing you checked the brakes it reminds me of your bit with Cheech. Look the cars rolling down hill, put on on the brakes..."Put on the what?" Look what you did to my car man... Ahhh such sweet memories. As for Mr. Goldstein giving out money to your buddy Jimmy Root, it probably won't happen. He owns all things "WAR", so sad that the Original members are touring under another name. Maybe, you should hook up with The Lowrider Band and do some shows?

Quick question. Do you ever talk to any of the cast from Up In Smoke other then Cheech? I have never seen Zane Buzby in anything else and I know the ajax lady has fallen on bad times and James the bass player was killed in a shoot out. Was Stadenko a real cop in Vancouver? Are you friends with Stacey Keach? I e-mailed Otto Felix, the bike cop that pulled you guys over and ended up getting stoned off the muffler fumes. He does acting classes in LA. I really liked the idea of the original reunion film "Get Blunt" where you make weed that grows hair? What ever happened to the guitar in the Next Movie? The one you sang beaners on. I liked that, it had a rear view mirror on it I believe? Anyway, donkey smell man.

Hey Tommy I just thought of something (yes it hurt)
I think electric cars or at least some of them have the brakes on the motor itself instead of the wheels ...
I don't know but that may be why you don't have any brakes...???

trailer trash lot 420, Tommy Chong's lowrider is using a Netgain WarP 11" series wound DC motor. series DC motors generally aren't good for performing regenerative braking. Timing is usually advanced forward a few degrees so that the motor can take a higher voltage without arcing.
If Chong had a 3-phase synchronous AC motor and the inverter to control it, he could do regenerative braking very easily, but not on a 100% full battery pack. The reclaimed kinetic energy has to go somewhere.
I'm currently building my own EV. AGM batteries, Netgain WarP 9" motor, Zilla 1k controller are planned. Would be the perfect car for a good hotboxing session, or for terrorizing unsuspecting motorists on the back roads.
